Mumbai : Evergreen and beautiful Bollywood actress Rekha celebrates her birthday and she turns 61 today. Rekha Ganesan who is best known as Rekha, was born in the family of renowned Tamil actor Gemini Ganesan and Pushpavalli in Chennai on 10th October 1954.

Rekha Known for her roles in films like Muqaddar Ka Sikandar, Khubsoorat, Silsila, Utsav and Khoon Bhari Maang, Rekhaji also received the Padma Shri, India fourth highest civilian honour. She was last seen in a cameo in Shamitabh.

Rekha adopted the inherited act after completed her studies and she has been first seen on the screen in Telugu film 'Rangula Ratnam' in 1966. After this film she demonstrated her acting performances in 1969 Kannada movie "Operation Jakpot Nalli CID 999'.

has been a part of more than 180 films. However, her journey so far hasn't been so easy. Rekha has entered in Hindi film industry with film 'Anjana Humsafar', in which actor Vishvajeet was in the main lead opposite her.

The censor board didn't approve the release of this film, because there was very hot kissing scene of Rekha and Vishvajeet in the film. After nearly 10 years Censor Board has approved the film for release. And then the film has been release with 'Two hunters' name.

Rekha and Bollywood Megastar Amitabh Bachchan starred together in many films. While their onscreen chemistry was working for their careers, their off screen bonding became a regular feature in the gossip columns. Rekha was highly criticised for being in a relationship with a married man.

Their relationship ended in 1981. Their last film together was Yash Chopra's 'Silsila'. Apart from Amitabh and Rekha, his wife Jaya Bachchan was also a part of the film.

Rekha played the title role in 'Umrao Jaan', released in 1981. The actress, who couldn't speak Hindi properly in the beginning of her career, learnt Urdu for the film. Thanks to the songs and her brilliant acting, 'Umrao Jaan' is considered as a major milestone in her career. She also won the National Film Award for Best Actress for it.

The song 'In Aakho ki Masti ke...' from 'Umrao Jaan, s one of the famous tracks of Rekha because of its music, thanks to Khaiyyam's excellent work and the powerful vocals of Asha Bhosle. The picturisation of the song is magnificent, a sizzling Rekha graces the screen with her ample dancing skills and a pair of intoxicating eyes.
