Channai : The son of former Union minister P Chidambaram, Karti Chidambaram who is booked by Enforcement Directorate (ED) on money laundering charges in the Rajasthan ambulance scam, on Saturday denied having any role in the management of Ziqitza Health Care Limited (ZHL), nor done any commercial transactions with the firm.

Ziqitza Health Care Limited (ZHL) is a firm who operated the emergency service.

ED has registered a criminal complaint and booked former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, PCC chief Sachin Pilot and Karti Chidambaram and Ravi Krishna, son of senior Congress leader Vayalar Ravi, on money laundering charges.

Karti said as reacting to the ED case, "I am not a director of the company. I was never a shareholder of the company. I was an independent non-paid director of Ziqitza until February 2012 and the last board meeting he attended was in 2008."

The case was registered based on allegations of irregularities in the award of tender for ambulance services in favour of the firm. Karti expressed surprise over media reports that his name had been included in the FIR.

"I have not received any notice from any investigating agency. And If I receive any such notice, I will reply to it appropriately. But, I am making it abundantly clear that I have never held shares of Ziqitza," the Congress leader said, adding that it was rather mischievous to link his name to any investigation.

Meanwhile, in press release, ZHL said Karti and Pilot never had any stake in the company and claimed it had abided by the processes and procedures laid down by various state agencies with respect to the ambulance services.

"We would like to clarify that neither Sachin Pilot nor Karti P Chidambaram have ever had or currently have any ownership stake in ZHL - either directly, indirectly or by way of beneficial interest at any point in time."
