Shimla : Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee on Saturday termed the One Rank, One Pension Scheme announced by the Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar as betrayal with 22 lakh veteran ex-servicemen, their widows and dependents.

HPCC Spokesperson Deepak Sharma while addressing the media persons, he said that the ex-servicemen were expecting that the Central government would accept all their demands but instead the governments has cheated lakhs of ex-servicemen and their widows on the pretext of VRS scheme.

“Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar announced implementation of OROP scheme but kept those ex-servicemen out of the purview of this scheme who had taken voluntary retirement from service,” he said.

Sharma said that the decision would affect around 60 percent of ex-servicemen and widows as they would not get any benefit from the OROP scheme and further, the Central government had announced to revise the pension of ex-servicemen after five years.

“The OROP scheme announced by the BJP led NDA government has annoyed and triggered further resentment among the ex-servicemen across the country and we would continue to strive towards implementation of the scheme as the recommendations of Koshiari Commission report,” he said.

He said that BJP and RSS tried to divide the ex-servicemen on the issue of OROP but the ex-servicemen continued their protest unitedly and would continue to do so in the future too.

“With one stroke, the government has cheated not only retired soldiers and also their widows and their dependents. It will also have long term adverse implications on Defence services,” he added.
