New Delhi : "News has come in about an Earthquake in Nepal. Several parts of India also experienced tremors." and "We are in the process of finding more information and are working to reach out to those affected, both at home & in Nepal." Prime Minister Narendra Modi has posted on micro-blogging site Twitter, he stated that India will reach out to those affected by Saturday's tremors, following an earthquake that hit Nepal and Northern India.

Another Tweets released from PMO's official handle @PMOIndia said that, "In the wake of the Earthquake, PM has spoken to Sikkim CM Shri Pawan Chamling." "PM @narendramodi has spoken to Bihar CM Shri @NitishKumarJDU ji in connection with the Earthquake." "PM is trying to reach Nepal PM Shri Sushil Koirala, who is abroad. He has spoken to President of Nepal Shri Ram Baran Yadav."

Meanwhile, the Indian Air Force stations of Sarsawa, Bareilly, Hindon, Chandigarh and Gwalior have reportedly been put on high alert for relief operations.

Notably, the powerful earthquake shake has been felt in entire of North India including Delhi-NCR and in Nepal. A high-intensity quake measuring 7.9 on the Richter scal, according to the U.S. Geological Survey, rocked many parts of East and North India, including Delhi on Saturday.

The earthquake struck near Lamjung in Nepal, about half-way between the town and the capital, Kathmandu. Witnesses said some buldings in Kathmandu had collapsed. There are unconfirmed reports of casualties.
