Valsad : A nine year old girl was mauled to death with attacked by a pack of 12 stray dogs on Friday morning, when she had gone to answer nature's call in Kardiva Mohalla of Malvan village in the district.

Kenny Patel, who studied in a government school in the village, was chased and attacked by the dogs at around 8 am. Hearing her screams, a few villagers rushed to her rescue. They took her to Kasturba Hospital, which is located some 16 km from Malvan as the primary health centre in the village is not functioning. Doctors at Kasturba Hospital advised the villagers to take the injured girl to Valsad Civil Hospital.

The incident took place yesterday when Kenny Patel had gone to relieve herself and was dragged by around eight to nine stray dogs, village sarpanch Ramu Patel said.

The villagers then rescued the girl, who was unconscious, and took her first to a primary health centre and then to the government-run Kasturba Gandhi hospital. Both the hospitals did not have injection for rabies so she was shifted to Valsad civil hospital, he added.

Manoj Das of Valsad civil hospital said there were atleast 20 bites on her body and she could not be saved as there was a delay in bringing her to the hospital.

Notable, Chief minister Anandiben Patel had resolved to ensure that all the 159 nagarpalikas in the state would have 100 per cent toilets by March, 2015. The campaign would be then taken up by the municipal corporations, she had said sometime ago. This seems to be a little far-fetched because Malvan village still does not have a public toilet.
