Mumbai (RN1) : The 'Uh La La..' girl of Bollywood, actress Vidya Balan is celebrating her birthday today and she turned 39 years on Monday. Vidya Balan, who often enjoys the status of being the 'hero' of her films, Vidya Balan, who was born on January 1st 1979, Vidya is known for her strong female protagonists. She has won several awards including a National Film Award, five film fare awards and five Screen Awards.

Her films include Guru, Parineeta, Kahaani, Urumi, Thank You, Paa, Halla Bol, Hey Babyy, Eklavya: The Royal Guard etc. Vidya is also a social activist and supports the cause of empowerment of women that eventually gets portrayed on-screen, where she has managed to carve a niche in a territory dominated by male actors. 

Vidya Balan has effectively proved herself as a multilateral female of Bollywood. With her perfection in acting, she proved that she could even challenge the Slim figure of Bollywood. Now Vidya is ruling on the cinema world with her attractive yet non zero figure.

Parineeta : Parineeta (2005) is the first Bollywood movie of Vidya Balan in which she appeared in a lead role. After this movie she got a huge popularity. This film also helped her in winning the Filmfare Award for Best Female debut.

The Dirty Picture : Vidya Balan knocked everybody’s socks off with her erotic performance in The Dirty Picture (2011). With this movie she proved that there is a pride, even in bold roles. She also wins National Film Award for Best Actress for the Dirty Picture. After this movie, she tossed a shade on every other actress by consistently giving Powerpack performances in every movie.
 

Bhool Bhulaiyaa : Very few people know that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was first considered for the role, that Vidya Balan performed in Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007).  Vidya gets an offer to do this role. And, she brilliantly performed the role of Avni in the movie.
 

Paa : In Paa (2009), Vidya played a role of of mother of a 12 year old suffering from progeria syndrome. She had also put on some weight for this Film. With this movie she also received a wonderful chance of working with veteran Actor Amitabh Bachhan. She performed great and earned best actress award for her role.

Lage Raho Munna bhai : Bollywood bubbly actress, performed very well in her most popular film Lage Raho Munnaibhai (2006). In this she played a role of Jhanvi opposite to Sanjay Dutt. This movie also bagged lots of film awards.
 

Guru : Nothing can beat her acting skills. Vidya was greatly appreciated in the Mani Ratnam biopic of Dhirubai Ambani, Guru (2008). In this movie she essayed a role granddaughter of a newspaper publisher. Her character adds to different sclerosis and later bites the dust. Despite the fact that she conveyed a powerful performance, tragically it was her kissing with Madhavan that got more eyeballs.


Ishiqiya : Who can forget her exceptional performance in Ishiqiya (2010), with a role of sexually manipulated woman with grey morality. For her role in this movie she won the Critics Choice award for Best Actress.

No One Killed Jessica : After getting success in Ishiqiya, she bagged a role in the crime thriller movie ‘No One Killed Jessica (2011)’ in which she played a role of Jessica Lall’s sister – Sabrina. This movie was based on an actual story of restaurant worker Jessica, who was killed in 1999. This motion picture drummed up some excitement when it released. The actress was again selected for her role at the Filmfare Awards.


Bobby Jasoos : Vidya’s Bobby Jasoos (2014) could not hit at the box office, but still it praised by many because of her gigantic versatility. In the movie she played a role of detective and changed dozens of costumes for the demanding roles of the movie.

In 2015 Vidhya has been seen in her romantic drama movie 'Hamari Adhuri Kahani', directed by Mohit Suri and produced by Mahesh Bhatt under the banner Vishesh Films and Fox Star Studios. The film stars Emraan Hashmi, Vidya Balan and Rajkummar Rao in principal roles. It is based on the love story of Bhatt's parents, Nanabhai Bhatt, Shirin Mohammad Ali and his stepmother.

Vidya next took on the part of a police officer in Te3n in 2016, a thriller inspired by the 2013 South Korean film Montage, co-starring Amitabh Bachchan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. She was attracted to the idea of playing a no-nonsense police inspector who commands much respect and was particularly drawn to her character's "silent aggression".


Vidya's final release of the year was Sujoy Ghosh's Kahaani 2: Durga Rani Singh, a sequel Kahaani, although it narrated a different story. The film was highly anticipated, and critics believed that Vidya's recent spate of poorly received films would come to an end. Kahaani 2, however, was not as well-received as the first film, although Vidya received a Best Actress nomination at Filmfare for her portrayal of a child sexual abuse survivor in the film.

Srijit Mukherji's period drama Begum Jaan in 2017, saw Vidya play the role of the titular procurer. A Hindi language remake of the Bengali film Rajkahini of 2015, Begum Jaan tells the story of how the lives of prostitutes living in brothel are affected by the partition of India in 1947. In preparation, Vidya worked with Mukherji to provide a backstory to her character, and she researched on the era by reading Urvashi Butalia’s novel The Other Side of Silence. Filming in the barren landscape of rural Jharkhand proved to be a challenge for Vidya, and she said that the experience taught her that "if push comes to shove, I can brave scorpions.


Later in 2017, Vidya played a radio jockey who anchors a relationship advice talk show in the comedy-drama Tumhari Sulu. With earnings of over ₹500 million (US$7.8 million) on a ₹200 million (US$3.1 million) budget, Tumhari Sulu proved to be Vidya's first commercial success since Kahaani. She won a fifth Screen Award for Best Actress for the film.
